Community Engagement
Explore how Reading Rumble helps to build community engagement and maintain it over time.
As a year 6 teacher I have seen first-hand how Reading Rumble sparks collaboration and creativity. “Children started making their own Reading Rumble cards, swapping them with classmates, and even playing the card game at break times. Suddenly, they weren’t just reading – they were talking about authors, debating books, and sharing recommendations with confidence.”
This sense of shared excitement is exactly what literacy researchers argue is key to developing lifelong readers. The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) highlights that when children discuss texts with peers, their comprehension and engagement rise significantly. Reading Rumble naturally creates these opportunities, as children collect and compare cards and reflect on the authors they’ve encountered.
The program also extends into the home. Each card features a QR code linking families to author content and background information, encouraging parents to explore along with their children. As pupils progress through 13 reward levels, many parents become actively involved in supporting their child’s journey. “Parents have been cheering their children on to reach the higher-level cards,” Megan notes. “It’s turned into a shared goal, and families are discovering authors together.”
